There are so many reasons to appreciate our military and our country’s history. While there are many groups of people whose rights and freedoms are particularly at stake in our nation at this crucial time of political turmoil and social movement, it makes it even more important to remember those who have come from all walks of life and have taken the oath to defend and uphold the Constitution. This list outlines some of the most notable spots in the Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX area. All these locations are spacious, ripe with history and offer a great place to take photos in honor of our veterans and active military service members.
1. Patriot Flag Memorial
4956 Camino Leon Ct, Las Cruces, NM 88011
A man-made memorial, paying homage to veterans, POWs and all service men and women, located in the Talavera area of Las Cruces. This memorial is located in a small cul-de-sac adjacent to a few homes, with several flags and custom-made sculptures of soldiers and service people.
2. Veteran’s Memorial Park
2651 Roadrunner Pkwy, Las Cruces, NM 88006
A large memorial in the heart of a park named Veteran’s Memorial Park, with dedications to Vietnam Veterans, and an anticipated Women Veterans monument. The park offers plenty of grass, sidewalk to observe and photograph the site and a playground area for little ones. This area is near the golf course so you can enjoy a day on the links.
3. Dianne Hamilton Military Museum
996 S Broadway St, Truth or Consequences, NM 87901
This beautiful memorial is down the road from Riverbend Hotsprings, and it’s made to commemorate all the lives involved in the Vietnam war, with a wall of names, a plaque for POWs, and metal artwork around the flagpole to represent the contribution of all our military service members. It’s gorgeous, well maintained, has several rustic props and is peaceful, with plenty of places to take a group photo or a selfie any time of year.
4. William Haddad WWII Memorial
9500 Gateway N Blvd, El Paso, TX 79924
A lot of time and dedication has been applied to this site, which is at the corner of Diana and the Gateway, with a newly paved road around the main flag pole and beside the latest additions to the monument. There are a few benches available and some unique designs, uplifting soldiers from different wars and conflicts. During warmer months and the fall, there are plenty of foodtrucks to choose from. With the latest rennovations, there is now more room to park, plenty of lighting, room to walk around, admire and remember our brave service members.
5. White Sands Missile Range Museum
Wsmr P Rt 1, White Sands Missile Range, NM 88002
Just before you head in the direction of I-75, this beautiful area offers plenty of old missiles and aircrafts. There are informational stands, so walking around and taking in all the history and admiring the defense technology will offer new insight and appreciation into our military history.
